Sophus Helle

Sophus Helle is a postdoctoral researcher at Princeton University. He received an MA in Assyriology from the University of Copenhagen and a PhD in comparative literature from Aarhus University.

Helle is the winner of the 2020 European Young Researcher Award Popular Prize and the 2021 Aarhus University Research Foundation PhD Prize. His translation of Gilgamesh is “a thrilling, enchanting, desperate thing to read, moving from questing adventure to surging grief and the confrontation with the reality of death [...] the book Helle has made feels both magic and deeply, lastingly human,” wrote Nina MacLaughlin in the Boston Globe.
